ATLANTA
- April 15, 2002 - The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO)
has named Donald P. Carson as Chief Financial Officer and
Paul W. Hogle as Vice President of Development. The ASO also
has appointed Quanda Rodriguez to the newly created position
of Manager of Community Engagement and Partnerships.
Donald
P. Carson joins the ASO as Chief Financial Officer with over
25 years of experience in commercial and investment banking.
His responsibilities will include overseeing the financial
ongoing development of the implementation of annual strategic
operating plans and increased initiatives.
Former
to his ASO appointment, Carson served as Principal and co-
founder of The Ansley Capital Group LLC & Ansley Securities
LLC, a boutique investment bank specializing in raising growth
capital for early stage companies and merger and acquisition
advisory work with more than $50M in capital raised and transactions
completed. Carson spent 20 years with the Wachovia Corporation
most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer, Wachovia
Capital Markets, Inc., Wachovia International Banking Corporation,
Wachovia International Investment Corporation, Wachovia Capital
Associates, and Wachovia Leasing Corporation; Executive Vice
President, Wachovia Bank, N.A. where he was responsible for
the company's investment banking, global markets, and financial
institutions businesses. He leaves his ASO Board service as
the chair for ASO's Personnel Committee, and as a member of
the Executive and Finance Committees to join the administrative
staff in building the new Symphony Center. He has been a member
of the world-renowned ASO Chorus since 1993, appears on two
of the ASO's Grammy Award-winning recordings (1999 and 1997)
and is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts
and Sciences.
As
the Vice President of Development for the ASO, Paul W. Hogle
will be responsible for working with volunteers and staff
to successfully maximize contributed revenues. Hogle will
manage the annual and long-term development goals, the planning
and strategy for the Annual Fund, corporate sponsorship, and
private and government grants, Atlanta Symphony Associates,
as well as all other aspects of project fundraising. Hogle
will further be responsible for the Symphony Center campaign
strategy oversight management, and success of the ASO's expansion
planning initiatives and, in particular, the new Symphony
Center.
For
eighteen years, Hogle has served orchestras in either the
Executive Director or Senior Development role. As Vice President
for Development for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Paul
led a team responsible for a five-year, $100 million comprehensive
fundraising campaign. During his tenure, the program saw commitments
to the campaign increase by 60% and annual giving by 40%.
Prior to his BSO position, he served as Development Director
for the Chicago and Indianapolis symphony orchestras. For
the CSO, he reorganized and rebuilt the development staff
to successfully grow the annual fund, while at the same time
staffing a campaign of $105 million to renovate and expand
Orchestra Hall. As Development Director for the Indianapolis
Symphony Orchestra, Paul expanded annual giving programs,
was responsible for a $40 million endowment campaign, and
co-led a five-year strategic planning process. Paul also graduated
from Leadership Greater Chicago, is a frequent presenter at
American Symphony Orchestra League conferences, and serves
as a School Board member for Chapelgate Christian Academy.
Paul, his wife, Lauri, and their three daughters will be relocating
to Marietta in June.
As
the ASO's Manager of Community Engagement and Partnerships
Quanda Rodriguez will facilitate the ASO's outreach and community
engagement initiatives and promote the Orchestra's leadership
role in the local, state and national community. This includes
assisting with the ASO's outreach program "Partners in
Performance", developing initiatives with trustees, musicians
and staff that enhance community engagement, representing
the ASO in advocacy events and activities throughout the state,
and coordinating community project activities for "A
King Celebration" - ASO's annual tribute concert to Martin
Luther King Jr.
For
three years Rodriguez served as a marketing and public relations
officer with the City of Atlanta's Bureau of Cultural Affairs
where she developed integrated marketing and public relations
strategies for the Bureau's programs, which included the Montreux
Atlanta Music Festival and the Atlanta Jazz Festival. She
holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and
International Business from Howard University. Rodriguez is
a Resource Council member for Woodruff Arts Center's "Celebrate
Diversity in the Arts" Campaign and is a member of the
Public Relations Society of America.
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is the largest arts organization
in the Southeast and one of the youngest American orchestras
to achieve prominence on the global stage. The Orchestra's
recordings, some featuring the globally renowned ASO Chorus,
have earned 18 Grammys. Now in its 57th season, the ASO performs
a year-round slate of more than 250 concerts, including a
72-concert Classical season and related series at Atlanta
Symphony Hall; an annual summer pops series at Chastain Park
Amphitheater, and a full schedule of educational, neighborhood
and Free Parks concerts throughout in Metro Atlanta. The Orchestra
supports 200 young musicians annually in the Atlanta Symphony
Youth Orchestra and Talent Development programs. The 2001-02
season saw the beginning of the creative partnership of Robert
Spano as Music Director and Principal Guest Conductor Donald
Runnicles, signaling a new era of collaborative and creative
energy. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Classical Concerts
