SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES SUMMER SCHEDULE OF EIGHT PARKS
CONCERTS IN ATLANTA AND FULTON COUNTY - 3rd Annual Bark in
the Park Concert at Piedmont Park
Centennial Park Fourth of July Celebration
ATLANTA--
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) announced today the 2001
schedule for its Summer Parks Concerts. An Atlanta summer
tradition, the ASO performs free outdoor concerts annually
in the parks of Atlanta and Fulton County.
For
the third year, the ASO presents its popular Bark in the Park
concert at Piedmont Park's Oak Hill on Sunday, August 12.
Besides animal-themed musical selections, pet lovers and families
are invited to bring their pets to the concert to watch and
participate in pre-concert dog activities including dog and
disc demonstrations by the Greater Atlanta Dog and Disc Club
and WoofSports USA and a costume contest for pets.
Music
Conductor-Designate Robert Spano salutes Independence from
the podium as he leads the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in the
noted Fourth of July celebration in Centennial Park on Wednesday,
July 4.
The
locations and dates for this year's schedule of eight concerts
are Shannon Mall (Sunday, June 24, 7:30 p.m.); Roswell City
Hall Parking Lot, Roswell (Saturday, June 30, 7:30 p.m.);
Centennial Park, Atlanta (Wednesday, July 4, 7:30 p.m.); Piedmont
Park Oak Hill, Atlanta (Sunday, July 8, 7:30 p.m.); East Point
Commons Area (Friday, July 13, 7:30 p.m.); William Payne House,
Sandy Springs (Sunday, July 15, 6:30 p.m); Bark in the Park
concert at Piedmont Park Oak Hill, Atlanta (Sunday, August
12, 7:30 p.m.); and Wills Park Equestrian Center, Alpharetta
(Thursday, August 16, 7:30 p.m.).
A
frequent conductor of Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concerts,
Jere Flint leads the ASO's popular Symphony Street concerts
for children and also conducts as part of the Classic Chastain
Series at Chastain Park Amphitheatre. He has also been a member
of the ASO's cello section since 1969, and has conducted the
Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra for more than two decades.
The
ASO is pleased to announce that BellSouth is the presenting
sponsor of the 2001 Summer Parks Concerts. The 2001 ASO Summer
Parks Concerts are also made possible with additional support
from the Fulton County Arts Council and the City of Atlanta
Bureau of Cultural Affairs.
