ALLISON
VULGAMORE, President
With
more than 20 years experience in senior management positions
for major orchestras, Ms. Vulgamore serves as President of
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), the largest arts organization
in the Southeast with an annual budget of $22 million. Since
Ms. Vulgamore is one of only two women to head a major national
orchestra, she is acknowledged as a role model for women leaders
in the Arts.
As President, she is responsible for creating a supportive
environment for the ASO and its audiences to flourish in providing
Atlanta with a world-class Symphony Orchestra. This includes
unprecedented fundraising challenges, deficit elimination,
artistic transitions, collaborative partnerships and the creation
of community outreach programs. During her six-year tenure,
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has seen unparalleled growth.
She has a heritage of passion for the music, which she shares
with her community and embraces her responsibility to lead
the ASO to be a vigorous part of the cultural fabric of Atlanta
while striving to reach national and international audiences.
Ms. Vulgamore presently is a trustee of Oberlin College in
Ohio. She has served as Vice Chair and on many committees
for Oberlin including the Executive Committee. Nationally,
she regularly serves on the National Endowment for the Arts
as a Music Review Panelist. In the Music Industry Ms. Vulgamore
is on the Orchestra Management Fellowship Program Advisor
Committee of the American Symphony Orchestra League (ASOL)
and has served on numerous ASOL Committees. In Atlanta, she
is on the Board of the Midtown Alliance, member of the Atlanta
Rotary Club, the International Women's Forum of Georgia, and
the North Georgia College Honors program at Georgia State
University. She is an advisor to the Boys & Girls Clubs
of Metro Atlanta and has sponsored many musical outreach and
developmental programs at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra that
foster musical talents and inspire youth within the Atlanta
community.
Prior to joining the ASO, Ms. Vulgamore served as general
manager of the New York Philharmonic, where she also served
as acting managing director and orchestra manager. During
her six-year tenure, she oversaw a $24 million budget; supervised
a $3 million acoustics project in Avery Fisher Hall; managed
all recordings, broadcasts, and tours; designed and developed
educational projects; and implemented organizational long-range
planning. Before joining the New York Philharmonic, Ms. Vulgamore
spent five years with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington,
D.C., and two years with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
A trained musician and student of voice, Ms. Vulgamore began
her career in 1980 as a member of the first class of the American
Symphony Orchestra League Fellowship Program. She received
her Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin College Conservatory
in Ohio.
