JUNE | JULY | AUGUST ![]() Judy Collins / Richie Havens / Janis Ian Wednesday, August 1 at 7:30pm Famous folkies who don't coast
on 60's reps. Collins' heavenly tone and Havens' hell-hound growl still
send shivers, and Ian's mature artistry retains the innocence of "17."
Our favorite down-home gal
is back where she belongs, but for one show only; come and get your fill
of a luminous singer-songwriter in her prime. A blockbuster by any standard:
Jarreau's wondrous voice scats and soars; Farrell torches any R & B song
she embraces; and Duke is a genius on the keys. His new, live set, "Here Come
the Noise Makers," reaffirms the keyboard wizard and former Grateful Dead
sideman as one of music's most versatile and gifted minstrels. We're so excited to have Ruth,
Anita and June in the house. The dynamic vamps' singles ("Fire," "Jump,"
"Slow hand") and sass are electrifying in concert. Just try and sit still.
Athens' and America's ultimate
party band ("Rock Lobster," "Private Idaho," "Love Shack") in its Classic
Chastain premiere. Blues-pop guitarist-vocalist
Keb Mo ("The Door") has wowed Classic Chastain audiences; so has Grammy-winning
banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck ("Left of Cool"). The ASO in concert with the
artist renowned as the "Kenny G of the piano." Brickman's PBS special
and breakout tunes ("Valentine," "Love of My Life") have made him huge.
Fueled by sonics and techno-wizardry,
avant rock icon Yes was an orchestral buzzsaw ahead of its time. Now the
group joins the ASO in an extraordinary collaboration. Soul to spare. Whether jammin'
on Letterman or headlining jazz fests, Sanborn is a marvel; for unadulterated
funk, Sample smokes every ivory-tickler around. His 42nd St. nightclub is
rockin', "Riding with the King" (Look for John Hiatt, who wrote the song,
to join in.) scored a Grammy, and Lucille is badder than ever. The incredible
B.B. King with the incendiary blues giant, Buddy Guy. |
