The Atlanta
Symphony Orchestras Outreach Programs, jointly called
Partners in Performance, exist to increase community access
to the Atlanta Symphony. ASO collaborative projects with civic
organizations and institutions are designed to heighten awareness
and appreciation of orchestral and small ensemble music.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD/COMMUNITY
PARTNERSHIP
The
Neighborhood/Community Partnership takes Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra ensemble performances to neighborhood venues such
as schools, libraries, and community centers. This partnership
provides an informal atmosphere in a familiar setting for
residents and ASO musicians to interact and explore opportunities
for increased participation in the Orchestras activities.
THE IN-SCHOOL
PARTNERSHIP
The In-School Partnership has evolved into a forum called
Sound Learning, a curriculum-based music education program
with Atlanta and Fulton County Schools. Together with the
Georgia State University Music Education Leadership Institute
and Young Audiences of Atlanta, the Orchestras musicians
provide demonstration performances to support ongoing music
education in the schools. Curriculum content for Sound Learning
is coordinated with the ASO Young Peoples Concerts curriculum
to enhance learning in the fundamentals of music.
THE YOUNG
CLASSICAL MUSICIANS PARTNERSHIP
The
Young Classical Musicians Partnership takes ASO musicians
into Atlanta, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett school districts
to perform, coach and mentor talented young instrumentalists.
Musicians impart their love of music as well as insight into
their professional lives, and coach students on audition practices
and help hone instrumental techniques. They also participate
annually in both Honor Orchestra and Honor Band for the Fourth
District of Georgia Music Educators Association.
THE SERVICE
ORGANIZATION PARTNERSHIP
The
Service Organization Partnership links the Atlanta Symphony
with children in the Atlanta Boys & Girls Clubs. ASO musicians
go to the Clubs where they engage students in music enrichment
programs through performance, interactive exercises, and discussion
of their own personal career history. The Clubs complement
this ASO exposure with interactive programs, taught in the
Clubs by a music specialist, that coordinate with the overall
instruction objectives focusing on listening skills. Children
from the Clubs travel to Symphony Hall to enjoy the orchestra
performing in its popular Family Concert series.
