Runnicles usher in an exciting new era of artistic leadership
at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) beginning in 2001-2002,
their Inaugural Season. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is
the Southeastern United States' largest cultural organization
and plays host to the region's corporate elite. Atlanta Symphony
Hall is located in the Woodruff Arts Center in burgeoning
mid-town Atlanta. The ASO audience is a sophisticated consumer
group that notices and values corporate stewardship in Atlanta.
Presenting Sponsorships are offered for all ASO series and
performances. Supporting and Promotional Sponsorships may
become available after presenting sponsorships are secured.
All ASO sponsorships are subject to availability.
MASTERWORKS
SERIES
The
Masterworks Concert Series is the heart and soul of the Symphony
and offers 24 weekends (72 concerts total) in Atlanta Symphony
Hall at Woodruff Arts Center. The 2001-2002 Masterworks Concert
schedule features such audience favorites as Tchaikovsky's
Nutcracker, Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Holst's Planets, as
well as twenty-five ASO Masterworks premieres. Maestros Spano
and Runnicles and the musicians of the ASO will work with
renowned guest artists such as pianists Alicia de Larrocha
and Lang Lang, violinists Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell,
and percussionist Evelyn Glennie. The ASO will also introduce
the presentation of video interviews conducted by Maestro
Spano with seven living composers whose works will be showcased.
These interviews will enlighten audiences on each composer's
works and creative processes prior to the ASO's performance
of their work. Robert Spano, Donald Runnicles and guest conductor
William Eddins will also set up great symphonic works with
engaging, pre-performance discussions during four "Interactive
Fridays" which will feature insightful conductor commentary
and more. With so many new experiences and beloved ASO traditions,
Robert Spano insists that the Inaugural Season is "sure to
surprise and delight you."

SPECIALS
Each
year the ASO brings internationally renowned artists to Symphony
Hall for the ASO's Specials. During the 2001-2002 season,
three specials concerts are on the program. The ASO will welcome
cellist and international music icon Mstislav Rostropovich
who will perform with the ASO in April as part of his 75th
birthday tour. Famed bandleader Wynton Marsalis and his ensemble,
the Lincon Center Jazz, will rock Symphony Hall in February.
Irish tenor John McDermott will kick off the Specials as he
celebrates the holidays with the ASO in December. Past Specials
have featured Charlotte Church, Bobby McFerrin, James Taylor
and Bryn Terfel. Specials guest artists for the 2002-2003
season will be announced in spring 2002.
A King
Celebration - A Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. Broadcast
nationwide on National Public Radio. The concert is a collaboration
of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Morehouse College, Spelman
College, National Public Radio and The King Center. Now in
its tenth year, the concert will again be performed January
17 & 18, 2002 at Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel
on the Morehouse College campus.

CLASSIC
CHASTAIN
Atlanta's
favorite summer concert experience is the ASO at Chastain
Park Amphitheater for its Classic Chastain Summer Concert
Series. Over 141,000 patrons attended concerts during Classic
Chastain's 2000 season. Classic Chastain has featured performers
such as Tony Bennett, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Natalie
Cole, Mary J. Blige, Wynnona, Hootie and the Blowfish, Brian
Setzer, B.B. King, Bruce Hornsby, the Gipsy Kings and many,
many more.

SUNTRUST
SUPER POPS!
The
ASO's fastest growing series with sales at 90% of capacity
for the 2000-2001 season. The 2001-2002 Pops season includes
Linda Eder, Cirque Eloize, Manhattan Rhythm Kings, Banu Gibson
& the New Orleans Jazz, Regina Carter & Quintet and Burt Bacharach.
It's a fantastic mix of musical excellence and fun conversation.
Plus, the ASO encourages people to relax and enjoy the evening
by bringing their beverages into Symphony Hall.

FAMILY
CONCERTS
Bring
the kids! The Family Concert Series is a fun, interactive
introduction for families to experience the joy of music on
a Sunday afternoon (show times are at 1:30 and 3:30). Refreshments
are served too! These shows continue to grow in popularity
every year. Our 2001-2002 Family shows include Heroic Halloween;
Music, Magic & Mischief with the Landis & Company Theatre
of Magic; Beethoven Lives Upstairs presented by The Children's
group and Bach to the Future featuring the Platypus Theatre.

FREE PARKS
CONCERTS
The
Free Parks Concert Series allows the ASO to provide cultural
enrichment to communities throughout the metropolitan Atlanta
area. These free concerts are held throughout the summer in
neighborhood parks.
ATLANTA
SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA
The
ASYO performs three concerts each season in Symphony Hall
in addition to other engagements in the area. The ASYO is
comprised of up to 120 students of diverse backgrounds and
socio-economic levels throughout the greater metropolitan
Atlanta area. After a rigorous national audition process,
the ASYO was chosen as one of only four orchestras to play
in the 2000 National Youth Orchestra Festival. Often referred
to as the ASO's "jewel in the crown", the ASYO is an integral
part of the ASO's educational programming.
EDUCATION/OUTREACH
PROGRAMS
The
ASO continues to expand its music education programs to grow
future audiences and make the joys of music accessible to
children throughout the region. Over 40,000 children attended
ASO education concerts last season. Symphony Street Concerts
for preschool - 2nd grade Discover Concerts for 3 - 5th grade
Next Generation Concerts for 6 - 8th grade Talent Development
Program to aid and encourage young economically disadvantaged
musicians in their pursuit of excellence. www.asokids.org
is a major initiative of the ASO's Education Department. The
new site, geared to children ages 4-12 and their parents and
teachers, will provide a "virtual walk" through the ASO with
"Musicians Drive", "Instrument Alley", "Music School Lane"
and other interactive experiences.
MILLSTONE
COFFEE NEW MORNINGS SERIES
Now
in its third year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's New Mornings
Series is an educational adventure into music for learners
of all ages. Audience members enjoy complimentary beverages
and pastries beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by an engaging
pre-concert lecture on stage at 9:45 a.m., and exhilarating
music at 11:00 a.m. All concerts take place in Symphony Hall,
Woodruff Arts Center.

BANK OF
AMERICA CASUAL CLASSICS
These
informal concerts on Saturday afternoons include enlightening
commentary from the stage. Popular with families, these concerts
serve as a good introduction to classical music. Supporting

Metro-Atlanta
Radio Broadcasts
WABE (Atlanta Public Radio) broadcasts the ASO's twenty-four
Masterworks concerts. The concerts are broadcast on Tuesday
evenings at 8:00 p.m. beginning in January and ending in June.
(All concerts are recorded for playback at a later date.)
Notes
Newsletter
Produced every six to eight weeks, approximately 150,000 Notes
are printed and distributed each season. The new concise formatting
of Notes uses heavy visuals making it easier to find out what's
happening with the orchestra and making it more thoroughly
read.
