The Atlanta
Symphony Orchestra is one of the South-east's most remarkable
success stories. Under the leadership of music directors Henry
Sopkin, Robert Shaw and Yoel Levi, the Orchestra has become
in little more than 50 years one of the finest in the country.
It is known nationally and internationally for its artistic
accomplishments. Yet its endowment is considerably less than
that of established orchestras in cities such as Indianapolis,
New York, and San Francisco.
Building
the Atlanta Symphony's endowment ensures the Orchestra's quality
and stability well into the next century. Endowment gifts
permanently associate the donor with the Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra.
Atlanta's
Symphony Orchestra: In Concert for a New Century is designed
to add $40 million to the endowment by the year 2000, placing
Atlanta on a financial level with America's other great orchestras.
Contributions
to the endowment can be unrestricted or for specific funds.
All gifts to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, a division of
the Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, are tax deductible as
allowed by federal law.
COMMEMORATIVE
NAMING OPPORTUNITIES
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra encourages unrestricted contributions,
which provide the greatest long-term flexibility in achieving
artistic goals and maintaining artistic excellence. General
purpose gifts to the endowment campaign may name a fund or
chair in perpetuity or for a lesser amount, name a chair for
a term of 10 years. A variety of commemorative opportunities
are listed to the right.
OUTRIGHT
GIFTS
Outright gifts to the endowment provide the Atlanta Symphony
Orchestra with immediately available and much needed investment
income. These contributions can be fulfilled by pledge payment
over three years, continually adding to the endowment.
PLANNED
GIFTS
Life income gifts are an excellent way for donors to make
a substantial contribution, receive income for the rest of
their lives, and be recognized by the Orchestra in perpetuity.
Charitable trusts and pooled income fund gifts designate present
assets for the future benefit of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
and provide income and tax benefits for the donors. In addition,
bequests, or provisions for the Orchestra in wills or trusts,
also enable donors to provide meaningful gifts to the endowment.
The present
value of any approved planned gift, irrevocably naming the
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as charitable beneficiary, will
be considered for named gift recognition purposes.
For more
information about gifts to the endowment or other contributions
to the Orchestra, please call Kathy Minarik, Acting Vice President
for Development, at 404-733-4852.
